Sunny Sunday
In a Crisp White Shirt
Oh hey, it's another post that starts with me lamenting about the weather! I'm sorry, I'm just upset that it's April and I'm still wearing wool scarves. Don't even ask me about how many scented candles I've been buying in an attempt to cheer myself up while I'm stuck indoors. Today's post is about simpler and sunnier times in New Orleans featuring some of my wardrobe staples: a crisp white shirt, mildly distressed denim and a perfect pair of black leather pumps.
The perfect oversized crisp white shirt is an item that everyone can enjoy in their wardrobe. It's incredibly easy to dress up or down - from wearing it with denim shorts and sneakers to tucking it into a pencil skirt for the workplace or throwing it over a swimsuit as a coverup - it's one of my wardrobe essentials. I found the shirt I am wearing on a clearance rack in New Orleans, deeply discounted from its original sticker price. It's by The Row, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's fancy-pants brand that I wouldn't be able to touch with a 10 foot pole unless heavily discounted. I'm a huge fan of discount department stores and consignment store shopping as they can be a real treasure trove for good quality items at a great price.
If you haven't gotten lucky at your local discount department store lately or if you simply lack the patience, fear not! You can find great white shirt options at multiple price points, from H&M to Zara to Aritzia and beyond. If you’re based in Europe and have access to Arket, they make incredible oversized cotton shirts as well.
I wanted to dress down the white cotton poplin so a pair of cropped destroyed grey jeans balanced out the look. I kept the accessories minimal, with a structured burgundy bag, a slim Gucci belt to cinch in the waist of the shirt and my trusty pair of Miu Miu sunglasses at the ready. My shoes are the Maeva pumps by Nicholas Kirkwood. They're made of smooth black leather and have a gorgeous pearl detail at the arch of the foot. I love finding really classic pieces that are freshened up with a creative twist like that. The 70mm heel height is perfect for my lifestyle as they're low and comfortable enough to wear to work, glam enough to hold their own for a special occasion AND they can also be worn more casually with ripped jeans like in this post.
I can't wait to experiment more with my style this upcoming spring. Until it arrives, I'll put on my wool scarf and wait patiently by the radiator.
