Cozied Up
An Outfit Roundup
With 6+ weeks of relatively crappy weather still ahead of us, I have gone a little stir-crazy. I yearn for sunshine and warmer days - days in which I can be more creative with what I am wearing. The appetite for spring wardrobe shopping is high. However, in an attempt to be a wiser, more careful consumer who makes fewer (albeit better) purchases, I am planning on curbing my appetite for spring shopping by reorganizing my current closet situation and trying to rekindle the love for what I already own.
This means discovering old faves and wearing them in new ways as well as getting the most out of new pieces. Are you guilty of buying something new and then letting it sit in the closet with tags on for weeks on end? Take that piece out and put it to work. Incorporating it into something like a 10x10 challenge could be a fun way to get creative and make the most out of your pieces. I experimented with a 10x10 challenge for my workwear wardrobe and it was a really successful run. I plan on doing more of those challenges and will document them on here in the future but until then, here's what I've been up to, AKA what I’ve been wearing:
I bought this striped short-sleeved top on a trip to New York last summer but had not touched it since early fall because it was not "wintery" enough for the current climate. On a rebellious and warmer-than-normal weekend, I busted it out and paired it with some thicker layers like my wool panel leather jacket from All Saints and a printed wool scarf from Winners. The end result was a comfortable, warm and cute outfit with awesome texture.
This Brochu Walker sweater dress drew me in because of the color and the chic silk blouse detailing. It looks like it's two separate pieces. The fabric is soft and luxurious and I love the juxtaposition between the knit and the delicate white silk underneath. I have been wearing it more as a top by tucking it into a pair of black leather trousers but am looking forward to wearing it as a dress soon.
This thick wool knit is EIGHT years old. I bought it in Germany in 2009 and while it's not the most versatile of pieces (the shoulders are dropped for a "cocoon" effect and it's thick so it's impossible to wear a coat over it) it has a very special place in my heart. I always remember my trip when I wear it. I really love the color - it's something that works with everything from white to grays or blue denim. There's also a fun tassel detail on one of the zippers.
I stuck to a muted colour palette as I wore this out to breakfast on the weekend. The weather was milder so I could get away with not wearing a coat.
How have you been mixing and matching your wardrobe lately?
