Amanera
Sunshine State of Mind
I wanted to share some of my favorite memories (and outfits) from my recent trip to the Dominican Republic. Since we never went on a honeymoon after getting married, my husband and I decided to go all-out and book a week at an Aman resort and indulge in a bit of sunshine.
With a strong craving for relaxation and disconnecting from hectic day-to-day life, we had our heart set on Amanera, located in the Maria Trinidad Sanchez province of the Dominican Republic, perched on the cliffs by a beach named Playa Grande. The closest town was Rio San Juan, a small community of 16,000 inhabitants about 10 minutes down the road.
It was an incredibly relaxing, peaceful and utterly beautiful stay. As with the rest of the resorts under the Aman brand, the design of the Amanera property was second to none - incredibly sleek and modern, with breathtaking views everywhere you turned. As there are only 24 rooms in the resort, we had the utmost privacy - it often felt like we were the only people on the property despite the place being nearly fully booked. The staff was so kind, friendly, welcoming and attentive to detail. It was truly the most relaxing and luxurious vacation we've ever been on.
We took a couple of trips out to Rio San Juan to learn more about the area and its history. The coastline was rugged and beautiful with a view of the mountains in the distance. We cruised the mangrove-lined Gri Gri lagoon and entered sea caves where the water was so clear you could see 16 meters down to the bottom.
Outfits
In terms of style, relaxation was my number one priority, so denim shorts and button-up shirts were my uniform. A button-up shirt is incredibly versatile and I found myself wearing one either as a part of an outfit or on top of swimwear every single day. The ones I brought on this trip were from & other stories and H&M.
This dress from & Other Stories was easily one of my best purchases last year, and they still make it and have it in stock! I have worn it numerous ways from spring until fall, and was excited to wear it on an evening out during my trip. I kept things super simple with air dried hair, nude pumps and my statement clutch. I have really fallen for midi dresses and skirts lately - I find them incredibly elegant, feminine and flattering and I am itching to add more into my wardrobe.
My favourite swimsuit was this two piece by Marysia that I purchased leading up to the trip. It's so incredibly comfortable with the adjustable sides of the bottom, and the bra offers great support. Also, the playful polka dot pattern just stole my heart. Marysia's signature scalloped edges graze the top and bottom of the suit. I'm in love. Although these swimwear pieces are pricy, they are built to last. I have worn a one-piece from the brand countless times over the last couple of years and it still looks brand new.
As I look back on this beautiful tropical adventure I am filled with happiness and longing for those crystal clear night skies and relaxing afternoons reading by the pool... until next time.
