Outfit Roundup #7
Summer to Fall Style Staples
It’s time for arguably my favorite time of year to get dressed - that confusing transition from summer to fall where on some days one can get away with a tank top while other times at least three layers are needed. Here’s what I’ve been wearing and enjoying lately.
Cream Knitwear
The Aritzia cardigan pictured below has been my most worn knitwear item this year and it has seen me through the tail end of last winter, spring and now fall. It’s sadly no longer available but I found a great alternative here.
A chunky cardigan in a neutral shade is a really versatile item in my wardrobe as it looks great layered on top of plain t-shirts or worn alone as a sweater. I also really like the “draping of knitwear on the shoulders of a blazer” look. I started getting into it last year and it’s a habit I have carried over into this year as well. It keeps my back warm and adds a bit of visual interest to an outfit, plus if the wind picks up and it gets cold it can easily be worn on top of whatever t-shirt I’m wearing underneath.
Casual Trench Coats
While longer, oversized trench coats are really taking over my Instagram feed this season, I’m trying to work with what I have. It’s the perfect time of year to just throw on a casual trench on top of a plain tee or tank top and call it a day. My lighter oversized trench was an Isabel Marant find from Nordstrom Rack last year and it wasn’t intended to be an oversized trench - it sat alone in a corner, heavily discounted, three sizes larger than what I normally wear and it ended up being exactly what I was looking for.

Shorts & Sweaters
I like to think of this as the last hurrah for my shorts before they go into storage until next year. Adding a cozy warm sweater to a favorite pair of paperbag waist shorts is a great way to spend a mild and sunny fall day. The blush colored shorts have been my most worn bottoms this year, and what makes them even better was the fact that they were an absolute bargain from Ross! They’re by Vince - one of my favorite brands - and were less than $20.00 so it was a delightful purchase. This ended up being one of my favorite outfits and I repeated it twice. Never a shame in repeating an outfit you love :)

Flats Forever
Remember high heels? Me neither. I feel bad for leaving my high heels behind but in the year of Covid I am all about sensible footwear. I went through several weeks of wearing exclusively slippers and sneakers. While my current evenings consist of eating take-out in the kitchen with my husband (if we get lucky with nice weather we go for walks around our neighborhood or a local park) I want to still feel cute and put together so I have opted for:
1) a chunky patent leather loafer from Prada and
2) a dainty suede flat from Chanel (happy birthday to me!!)
They’re both so incredibly beautiful and comfortable - I can see me happily wearing both of these pairs of shoes for many, many years to come.
I definitely think that the chunky loafer/brogue is going to be this season’s equivalent to the chunky dad sandals we saw last summer, so I will link several cool options at various price points below. I surprised myself with how quickly I have fallen for them and there are an excellent footwear option for so many occasions.
