She’s a Tough Tomato
There's just something about that perfect bright shade of orangey red that I can't resist. It’s my go to bright shade for spring and summer. Whether in a nail color or in a lipstick, I pounce and purchase as soon as I see it. That's what happened when this Rodin Olio Lusso Luxe Lipstick in the shade Tough Tomato made its way into my cart. I love everything about it: the creamy formula, the punchy shade, and the simple yet luxurious clear packaging. It’s so beautiful to look at.
The Rodin Olio Lusso brand started in 2007 when founder Linda Rodin started mixing and selling her own luxurious blend of botanical oils. “Olio Lusso” literally translates to luxury oil, and her signature blend became super popular with beauty insiders and editors around the world. Fast forward to 2014 when Estée Lauder Companies acquired the brand and extended the product offerings. We now have a full skincare range, body care, stunning limited edition face illuminators and a stunning array of luxurious lipsticks.
What makes the Rodin Lip Wardrobe so special? The signature blend of 11 oils in the formula results in the creamiest application. It smells softly of jasmine and neroli, which I love. The pigment is intense yet it never lends itself to a patchy application. It’s super comfortable and long wearing. Out of the array of luxury lipsticks I’ve tried, this reminds me the most of the Tom Ford Lip Color formula but a touch more creamy. I found that it left my lips feeling moisturized for the entire day, as opposed to other formulas that tend to dry me out a bit.
The finish is a soft creamy finish, with a slight sheen. One could always blot away the shine with a tissue if a more matte finish is desired, but I personally really like the extra dimension given by the soft sheen. Rodin Tough Tomato fades elegantly if worn through a meal, so it's not like a liquid lipstick that will stay on your mouth for eternity. You will have to reapply if you want to maintain the vibrancy after about 4 hours if you're eating and drinking but you know what? It's so hydrating and such a pleasure to use, you will want to reapply.
