Live, Laugh, Lilac

A few years ago, I ventured outside of my usual neutral comfort zone and bought a lilac cashmere sweater. It was a real splurge item for me and it was the only sweater I purchased that season. It has become one of my most worn, most cherished knitwear items in my closet. I’ve worn it on numerous occasions - from family gatherings with white or black denim and boots to work with trousers and white sneakers, as well as around the house during COVID lockdowns with leggings. I am happy to see that this punchy shade is popping up more often in my social media feeds and more brands are jumping on the bandwagon because it is such an interesting shade.

Basically, I am writing this post to convince you that you need a lilac item of clothing in your closet, specifically a sweater, given that we’re in the middle of winter and there are many decent sales. Winters where I live are grey, cold and long, so a brief injection of color is a welcome sight for sore eyes.

I find myself reaching for my lilac sweater the most during January and February. It is soft and cozy, with the uncanny ability to cheer me up. After the year we’ve had and are continuing to have, a little bit of cheer is very welcomed, even if it’s in the form of an inanimate object with cozy capabilities. My sweater is from the 1-01 Babaton range at Aritzia and while it is long gone, I have spent the day scouring the internet for gorgeous alternatives at a variety of price points that I would buy to serve the same purpose. Most of them are crewnecks which I find even more versatile than a turtleneck, and there’s even a cardigan option if full on knits aren’t your thing:
